This Month's Challenge
On April 26, 2012 the Commission's AmeriCorps*State Formula grant competitions' deadlines all occur. Your challenge is to match the type of grant with the fiscal and program traits that are unique to it. Note: Planning Grants have the 4/26 deadline but are not included below because there are no AmeriCorps members involved.
| TYPE | TRAITS |
| 1. Cost Reimbursement | (a) AmeriCorps Member Positions must all be full time (1700 hours).Payment of award is based on enrollment and completion of the term of service. The federal contribution is a pre-determined $13,000 per AmeriCorps position. Funds partially support the member stipend and insurance costs. Operating funds come from other sources. Financial reports are reduced. Grant emphasis is on meeting performance targets. |
| 2. Formula Ed Award | (b) AmeriCorps Member positions may be full time 1700 hours or any of the part-time terms (900 down to 300 hours). The level of funding is specified at $13,300 per full time equivalent (think personnel terminology of FTE; in AmeriCorps FTE is Member Service Year or MSY). Funds can be applied to any line of the budget and the balance of program operation money comes from other sources. Payment of the award is based on expenses and the contracted rate of grant/local share split. Financial reporting shows how federal funds were applied to the budget and where local cash or in-kind was obtained. There is an equal emphasis on performance targets and fiscal compliance with OMB circulars. |
| 3. Fixed Price | (c) AmeriCorps Member Positions may be full-time 1700 hours or any of the part-time terms (900 down to 300 hours).Payment of award is based on enrollment with the federal contribution being $2,000 per AmeriCorps position filled. Funds to operate the program are from other sources. AmeriCorps funds largely support recruitment and admin. Financial reports are minimal. Grant emphasis is on meeting performance targets. |
