911 Day of Service and Remembrance
The Maine Commission for Community Service shares with the Corporation for National & Community Service responsibility for reclaiming the legacy of September 11th from one of devastation to one of permanent, positive tribute to all those lost and those who rose in service on that day. The Commission is joining with families of 9/11 survivors and hundreds of other organizations around the country that are planning to commemorate September 11th with community-based service in memoriam to all people who lost their lives in the acts of terrorism committed on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, as well as those who served countless hours and days in the rescues that followed the attacks.
