Volunteer Recruitment Website Expected to Get 20,000 Visitors: Non-Profit Agencies Urged to List Volunteer Opportunities by Mid-September
August 30th, 2006
During the months of September and October, VolunteerMaine.org is expected to receive over 20,000 unique visitors. This influx of online visitors is due to in part because of online registrations for the annual Blaine House Conference on Volunteerism taking part on October 3rd and Operation KeepMEwarm winterization volunteer sign-ups for the weekend of October 19th through 22nd .
“It would be beneficial for non-profits, civic organizations, emergency management officials, schools and state and local government agencies to make sure their volunteer needs are posted on VolunteerMaine.org especially before the fall recruitment season starting in mid-September. It’s one of the very few free marketing resources where they can reach a target audience of 20,000 people during the months where people are the most eager to volunteer,” commented Maryalice Crofton, Executive Director of the Maine Commission for Community Service, a VolunteerMaine partner.
Maine is one of the few states in the nation to launch a statewide volunteering database. The website was created and is maintained by the VolunteerMaine Partnership which includes the United Ways of Maine, the Maine Commission for Community Service, the Maine Emergency Management Agency, Volunteer Organizations Active In Disaster, 2-1-1 Maine, and the Board Network. Sponsors of the site include WCSH6/WLBZ2, Clear Channel and the National Emergency Response Team.
Agencies wishing to post their needs can logon to www.VolunteerMaine.org. There is no cost associated with using the site. Persons seeking volunteer opportunities are also encouraged to visit.
