Nominations for Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards Now Being Accepted

AUGUSTA- The Maine Commission for Community Service and the Governor’s Office are pleased to announce that nominations for the 2009 Governor’s Service Awards are now being accepted through February 16, 2009. Official nomination forms can be found at www.VolunteerMaine.org.

The nine award categories cover a range of opportunities to recognize both individuals and groups. Award categories include Volunteer of the Year, Youth Volunteer of the Year, Small Business Volunteerism Award (fewer than 100 employees), Corporate Volunteerism Award (more than 100 employees), Outstanding Non-Profit (501(c)3), Excellence in Volunteer Administration, National Service Volunteer Award, and Outstanding Volunteer in a Public Sector Program.

Nomination are also being accepted for the Roll of Honor, a distinct award category reserved for volunteers who serve more than 500 hours a year in their community.

Official nomination forms, category listings, submission criteria and procedures are available at www.VolunteerMaine.org. or by calling 207-287-8933. Nomination packages must be received no later than 2pm on February 16, 2009.

Winners will be announced at a special ceremony at the State Capitol on April 21, 2009.
