AmeriCorps 101-Preparation for the Upcoming Spring Grant Round

February 27th, 2009

AUGUSTA-The new Obama Administration announced the "Renew America Initiative" and issued a call to service. AmeriCorps will be one vehicle for people to respond.

This spring and over the next year, it is expected that educational, community and faith-based organizations will have opportunities to apply for AmeriCorps funds to support volunteers in part-time and full-time service. AmeriCorps programs and the Members who serve in them address critical human, educational, health, disaster preparedness, and public safety needs in communities.

The Maine Commission for Community Service is offering local organizations and collaborations a chance to get to know AmeriCorps. This is the first step in preparation for the spring grant round. This webinar was originally held in February and is being offered a second time due to the overwhelming response.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, March 18, from 9:00-11am and will introduce attendees to AmeriCorps and the opportunity to apply for funding for programs that need 10 or more AmeriCorps members. In addition, we will look at the purpose and culture of AmeriCorps as well as the basic elements of successful grant proposals.

To participate, a person will need access to the internet and a phone line or voice-over-internet protocol (VOIP). Registration is required in order to ensure enough connections for the session. To register, click here. Connection details will be sent the week prior to March 18th.

The Maine Commission for Community Service builds capacity and sustainability in Maine's volunteer sector by funding service programs, developing volunteer managers, raising awareness of the scope and impact of the sector, and encouraging an ethic of service.  To learn more about the Maine Commission for Community Service visit our web-site at ww.maineservicecommission.gov.
