Service Learning Project Award Recipients Announced This Week

What: Mrs. Baldacci, Time Warner Cable, and the Maine Commission for Community Service will present three 1,000$ Service Learning Awards and two 4,000$ Awards in a special ceremony at the Capitol.
When: November 19, 2009 at 10:00am.
Where: State Capitol, Hall of Flags.
Who: Awards will be presented to Maine Schools and or community programs, working with children (k-12), focused on STEM activities (science, technology, engineering, math). Projects selected address local community needs. Submitted applications were reviewed and selected by a panel of community members. Service Learning in Maine combines community service with classroom instruction, focusing on critical, reflective thinking and civic responsibility to engage students. Service learning programs involve students in activities that address local needs while developing their academic skills and commitment to their community.
The Maine Commission for Community Service builds capacity and sustainability in Maine\'s volunteer sector by funding service programs, developing volunteer managers, raising awareness, and encouraging an ethic of service.
