Scholarships Available for Trainings on Volunteer Management, Service-Learning

The Maine Commission for Community Services announces a limited number of scholarships to attend the 25th annual Blaine House Conference on Service and Volunteerism, Tuesday, October 11 at University of Maine in Orono.  This award is valued at $85.  More information about the conference is available at www.volunteermaine.org.

Applicants should be either agency staff or volunteers who lead volunteers, or teachers and administrators using service-learning and community programs that partner with schools.  Six workshop sessions are offered on service-learning and more than twenty are planned for topics in volunteer management, including recruiting, recognizing volunteers, risk management, and more.  Preference will be given to applicants from rural areas and those who will be attending the conference for the first time.

Those interested in receiving a scholarship to attend the conference should contact Meredith Eaton at (207)624-6231 or meredith.eaton@maine.gov prior to October 5.  The Blaine House Conference on Service and Volunteerism is sponsored by the Maine Commission for Community Service, with additional support from the Corporation for National and Community Service, Time Warner Cable, Youth Service America, generationOn, AL!VE, Reimagining Service, and Cabot Cheese.

The Maine Commission for Community Service builds capacity and sustainability in Maine's volunteer and service communities by funding programs, developing managers of volunteers and service-learning practitioners, raising awareness of sector issues, and promoting service as a strategy.  To learn more about the Maine Commission for Community Service visit our web-site at www.maineservicecommission.gov.
