Volunteer Maine, Maine Volunteer Foundation seeking individual to help launch new Maine-based service program

Do you have nine months to devote to creating something special? Then Volunteer Maine and the Maine Volunteer Foundation want to talk to you.
The Volunteer Maine Development Associate is a nine-month position focused on two goals: identifying resources to support the new Maine Service Fellows program; and, completing the plan for implementing Maine Service Fellows. The position reports to both organizations because each is working on one of the goals.
The Maine Service Fellows program is a new full-time, stipended service opportunity for individuals with volunteer and community development experience. Fellows will help rural, underserved communities design and implement volunteer-driven responses to persistent or emerging community problems.

Position description: Maine Volunteer Development Associate
LOCATION: Volunteer Maine office in Augusta, Maine (Please note: Due to the nature of the work and the associated timeline, the chosen candidate will work in Augusta. This is not a remote work position.)
HOURS: Approx. 24 hours/week
This position identifies resources to support the new Maine Service Fellows (MSF) program, aids foundation board members in submitting requests for support to potential funding partners, and works with the Maine Service Fellows Task Force to complete the operation and implementation plan. The associate implements program initiatives that support the goals and objectives for the project.
Work may require in-state travel and is performed under administrative direction.
Please note: A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned.
- Supports the MSF advisory task force by drafting, piloting, and implementing policies and procedures that result in host site applications from rural communities and applications from individuals interested in filling the positions.
- Researches and develops no less than two (2) grant proposals and contracts to support the MSF program.
- Helps MVF identify and establish relationships with no less than three (3) funders to support the MSF program throughout the life of the pilot period of five (5) years.
- Establishes relationships with national foundations in order to expand community development efforts.
- Researches topics of interest to MVF in order to collect information relevant to policy and program development.
- Promotes, advises, consults, and coordinates planning activities at the local and regional levels in order to provide assistance and direction to the Commission and MVF.
Knowledges, skills and abilities required
The following are required to successfully perform the work assigned:
- Knowledge of grant research tools and elements of strong proposals.
- Knowledge of practices and procedures used in collecting and organizing data and facts in order to support MVF's fundraising goals.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, strategies, and measurements for government planning and communications.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and strategies for cultivating potential funders.
- Knowledge of the structure and functions of government and the nonprofit sector.
- Knowledge of the fields of volunteer service and civic engagement, program development, and community development.
- Knowledge of the State of Maine and the issues affecting its various communities.
- Ability to communicate the needs of Maine communities to potential funders.
- Ability to evaluate research activity.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to write clearly and effectively.
- Ability to create and present informative and educational materials.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and accomplish work that meets deadlines.
- Ability to develop grant proposals and contracts.
- Ability to evaluate proposed plans for encouraging public participation.
Four years of higher education or advanced work experience related to resource development and program design. Relevant work or volunteer experience preferred. Applications from AmeriCorps Alumni welcome.
