New Maine VISTA project
Published July 25, 2011
The Maine Commission for Community Service(MCCS) announces 18 new VISTA members and one VISTA Leader to join the new Maine VISTA Project. The project is sponsored by the MCCS with funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).
Members will be serving at nonprofits, schools, and agencies statewide to focus on a number of identified areas of need: Education, Veterans and Military Families, Healthy Futures, and Economic Opportunity.
Education sites will be focused on the implementation of Service-learning practices across a school or program. One of the goals is to create a replicable Service-learning model that can be used across the state.
Veterans and Military Families VISTA members will be placed in positions to better leverage community and governmental networks that assist those who have served our country and their families access services, including educational benefits, employment, health, transportation, and legal services.
