Published January 31, 2013

Appllications due February 24, 2013.

As the lead agency for Global Youth Service Day efforts in Maine, Maine Commission for Community Service is now offering matching grants up to $500 to support youth-led community service projects or Semester of Service projects that take place or culminate on Global Youth Service Day, April 26 - 28, 2013.

Global Youth Service Day is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of young people aged 5-25 who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service-learning.

Established in 1988, Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world, and the only day of service dedicated to children and youth. Each year, millions of children and youth around the world work together with schools, youth organizations, nonprofits, community and faith-based organizations, volunteer and national service programs, government agencies, faith communities, and other individuals to address the world's most critical issues and change their communities on Global Youth Service Day.

The Commission has adopted Global Youth Service Day as a means to increase the percent of youth who volunteer in Maine as well as to strengthen the adoption and practice of service-learning in settings focused on youth (K-12).
