4-H clubs in Androscoggin, Sagadahoc and Cumberland counties are working with the Lewiston Maineiacs at their home game on Wednesday, February 10 to raise funds for American Red Cross earthquake relief in Haiti. Youth are selling tickets to the game for $13, which is one dollar less than the normal ticket office price. On game night 4-Hers will hold a raffle and run the Chuck-A-Puck contest. All proceeds will be donated to the United Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross.
One of several efforts to assist Haitians in wake of the disaster, the American Red Cross has spent or committed nearly $78 million to meet the most urgent needs of earthquake survivors. The organization is focusing on food, water, shelter and relief items. Every dollar counts, as the American Red Cross can use a $5 donation to purchase a container to store clean drinking water, $10 to purchase a blanket or $25 to provide a family of 5 with a complete kitchen set.
For more information on purchasing tickets or how to get involved with your local 4-H, contact the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Lisbon Falls at 207-353-5550 or mfornoff@umext.maine.edu. Vist VolunteerMaine.org to volunteer for this project.
