America's Service Commissions stylized text logoAmerica's Service Commissions. The American Association of State Service Commissions (also known as America’s Service Commissions-ASC) is a peer network of governor-appointed commissioners, along with staff from the state commissions. It is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that is dedicated to advancing service and volunteerism in the United States. ASC works on behalf of a network of commission members and staff, who promote and represent all of the streams of national and community service.

 

Children’s Cabinet The Commission is represented on the Senior Staff of the Children’s Cabinet and identifies sources of National Service and community service support for Cabinet Initiatives.


Corporation for National and Community Service logoCorporation for National and Community Service. The Corporation for National and Community Service provides opportunities for Americans of all ages and backgrounds to serve their communities and country through three programs: Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and Learn and Serve America. Members and volunteers serve with national and community nonprofit organizations, faith-based groups, schools, and local agencies to help meet community needs in education, the environment, public safety, homeland security, and other critical areas. The Corporation is part of USA Freedom Corps, a White House initiative to foster a culture of citizenship, service, and responsibility, and help all Americans answer the President's Call to Service.

 

Maine Department of Education. The Dept. of Education is not only an ex-officio member of the Commission but a partner in promotion of service-learning and youth community service.

 

Maine Emergency Management Agency. MEMA is a bureau of the Dept. of Defense, Emergency Management, and Veterans Affairs. The Commission and MEMA work together to ensure citizen volunteers assist in meeting local needs to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recovery from natural as well as man-made emergencies. The MEMA Director is a member of the Commission for Community Service and co-chairs the State Citizen Corps Council.

 

State Planning Office. The Commission was administratively attached to State Planning Office when it was created in Maine law. The State Planning Office provides the information, analysis, and guidance decision makers need to make informed decisions about Maine's economy, resources, and governance.
