Both the number of volunteers and the volunteer rate rose over the year ended in September 2003, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported. About 63.8 million people did volunteer work at some point from September 2002 to September 2003, up from 59.8 million for the similar period ended in September 2002. The volunteer rate grew to 28.8 percent, up from 27.4 percent.

The National Service Resource Center The Center offers online training tools and publications, an events calendar, the Effective Practices Collection, and a library of printed publications, videos, and other media available for loan to Corporation grantees. It also serves as an information exchange where individual programs can share innovations and effective practices with others. Content housed at the Resource Center is generated by a network of specialized training and technical assistance providers funded by the Corporation to help volunteer and service programs succeed and thrive.
