Visit with Senator Angus King - John Portela & Maryalice Crofton visited Senator King last week.  Sen. King provided with information about Corporation for National & Community Service funded programs in Maine and the impact they have to our state.

Federal budget Update - no new news

Welcome/Welcome back Letters to State Legislators  - Letter to be sent includes information about upcoming 2012 annual report and National Service Day at the Capitol, Mar 6.  Committee members encouraged to participate in the event.

ACTION ITEMS:  John to send draft letter to committee members for review by Tuesday, Jan 15.   Pam to send draft one-pager to committee members for review by Tuesday, Jan 15

Mayors' Day of Recognition for National Service - To spotlight their impact and thank those who serve, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), in cooperation with the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) will hold the first-ever Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service on April 9, 2013.  On this day, mayors across the country will hold public events and use traditional and social media to highlight the value and impact of national service to the nation's cities.

CNCS State Office is coordinating the event for Maine and would appreciate support of the Commission.    Mayors of Lewiston, Bangor, and Portland have committed to issuing a proclamation about the day.  Discussion of how State Commissioners could assist by serving as local contact for Mayors or others wanting to host an event on the day.  Commissioners willing to assist should contact Eileen Smart, CNCS State Office.

Maine Volunteer Protection Legislation Proposal - Discussion about information received regarding proposed legislation.  Concerns expressed regarding economic impact.  Staff has follow-up meeting scheduled with MANP.
