retired-Excellence and Expertise Task Force
October 16, 2015
PRESENT: Gordon Liu, Mark Hews, Maryalice Crofton
The meeting convened at 9am in Room 103 of the Cross Office Building, Augusta.
ADJUSTMENT OF MEETING TIME
The regular meeting time is normally the end of the day on first Thursdays. That is proving to be a very challenging time for everyone. For example, today's meeting is the result of conflicts on everyone's calendars.
The decision was to keep the meeting day (first Thursday of the month) but change the time to 8:30 am.
It was noted that, due to changes in Commission appointments, Mark Hews will be a community member of the task force. Gordon will talk with Barb Wentworth about joining the group.
DISCUSSION OF AFFILIATE HUB CRITERIA
There are two draft documents related to authorizing affiliate Service Enterprise hubs in Maine. These would operate under the Commission's license and promote as well as conduct Service Enterprise training. Eligibility only addresses the type of organization (e.g., nonprofit) that could apply to MCCS to be a hub. Based on experience over the past year, that seems inadequate.
Through discussion, other criteria identified were:
- at least one year of experience leading groups of organizations through the Service Enterprise process;
- demonstrated commitment to building capacity in other organizations whose missions and services may or may not be congruent with the Service Enterprise hub;
- integration of volunteer engagement into the organization's mission and strategic plan;
- allocation of personnel and resources to participate in the Service Enterprise Network.
The next meeting will involve a full review of affiliate hub responsibilities, eligibility criteria, and application process. Discussion also touched on financial expectations. The proposal is that affiliates contribute an annual fee equivalent to 10% of the full Points of Light license. The intent is not to cover the entire cost of the license but for affiliates to have some tangible contribution to the initiative. Based on the Points of Light licensing scheme, the current cost would be $350.
The next meeting is NOVEMBER 5 at 8:30 am by teleconference. Meeting adjourned at 10 am.
