New Funding Cycle Announced for Professional Development Fund for Managers of Volunteers, Service-Learning Practitioners, and MCCS Grantee Staff

The Maine Commission for Community Service has established a professional development fund for teachers, staff of programs funded by CNCS, National Service host sites, station supervisors, and volunteer program managers. There are scholarships available for training related either to the mastery of the Competencies for Managers of Volunteers or to meeting the Service-learning Standards for Quality Practice.  The following are examples of the type of training that is allowable:

Certification in Volunteer Administration 
- National Service-learning Conference 
National Conference on Volunteering and Service
-  Other workshops and conferences related to volunteer management or service-learning

Professional development funds may cover up to 75% of the total training cost. A preference will be given to applicants from counties not covered by a volunteer center. These counties are Androscoggin, Aroostook, Hancock, Kennebec, Oxford, Piscataquis, Somerset, and Waldo.

Professional Development Fund applications may be submitted at any time. Below is the schedule for reviewing requests for professional development activities that begin after Jan 1, 2012 and end prior to Dec 31, 2012.

Applications received by November 30, 2011, notification of funds status by December 20, 2011. Applications received by January 31, 2012, notification of funds status by February 21, 2012.  Applications received by April 30, 2012, notification of funds status by May 22, 2012.

Review of applications and selection of recipients will be made jointly by an MCCS task force and staff. 

Completed forms with support statements may be submitted by either scanning the materials or attaching to an email sent to  OR mailing to the Maine Commission for Community Service. Click here for details and to download the application.
